February has 28 or 29 days, depending on the year. If last two digits can be divided with four (like 08, 16, 28), it has 29 days. The exception are years ending with two zeroes (which have 28 days in February), but not years ending with three or more zeroes (these have 29 days as well). Years with 29 days in February are called leap years. Last leap year was 2020 and next will be 2024.
February is in general not so cold as January but it is still winter month with a bit more rain and a bit less snow.
One of the most known traditions in second month of the year is a celebration of Groundhog Day, originating in Pennsylvania, USA. It is believed if a groundhog comes out of his burrow on February 2, spring is already on its way. If the weather is sunny, groundhog will see his shadow and retreat, what means another six weeks of winter.
Another interesting holiday, specific for the USA, is Presidents Day, which was established to commemorate the birthday of George Washington, first president of USA, but also to honor all other presidents. If we know George Washington was born on February 22, we can ask why this date is not fixed?
Why it falls on third Monday in February? There are several resons for that, but main is related to business. Numerous companies and public services adapted to the possibility of prolonged weekend in February and we can even find special coupons and promotional codes made for the occasion of Presidents Day only.
